FOUR*THREE

Nov 12, 2022 · Peggy Corkum Music Room · Halifax, Nova Scotia

FOUR*THREE explored the possibilities of contemporary trio and quartet writing through works composed over the previous two decades. With a smaller configuration of Alkali Collective musicians for this concert, the program turned that circumstance into its central idea, moving through a wide range of approaches to chamber music for three and four performers.

The program paired music by Atlantic Canadian composers Andrew Noseworthy and Monica Pearce with works by Andy Akiho, Alissa Cheung, Nico Muhly, Yaz Lancaster, and Guillaume Connesson. From Akiho’s rhythmically intricate Karakurenai to Lancaster’s Shed Velvet and Connesson’s Techno-Parade, the concert showcased the variety of musical styles and textures possible within these compact ensembles.
